Please, Don't Remove fledglings from the Wilderness
Recently we have been frequently receiving fledglings out of their nests that are found and handed in by the public. People are concerned that the fledglings may become orphans, prey of stray animals, or that they may be run over by the heavy traffic on the street. Normally one's first reaction is to send them to wildlife rehabilitators. However, have you ever thought that our love could cause the death of the fledglings? Fledglings require highly intensive care from parent birds during their growth, and even if the fledglings fall to the ground, the parent birds will do anything to bring the fledglings back to their nest. After finding the fledglings and sending them to the wildlife rehabilitators, the care provided by human beings is not as intensive as that by the parent birds, and may make the fledglings susceptible to premature death. Even if the fledglings are fortunate enough to live, it might be difficult for them to go back to nature as they lack models to learn from, which results in their not being able to care for themselves in their natural habitat. Therefore, we would like to remind you, that when you run into fledglings out of their nests by the roadside or in the wilderness, please remember not to remove them because the parent birds might be waiting nearby for an opportunity to bring the fledglings back home!
